A WORLD OF
DANGER AND
INTRIGUE: ANVILUS NÖIRE, ANTIPALADIN
Digital (Blender™ & Photoshop™), 2018
-----
As one of the greatest swordsmen in history, he wields the hideous unholy sword, Apollyon, an ancient arcane artefact whose blade is a rip in the very fabric of the space-time continuum itself; However, this sword's most devastating power lies in its ability to access the power and abilities of all the other arcane artefacts.
This fearsome warrior was once thought to be nothing more than a folk-tale from Varzuun's past, but he has appeared once again to thwart the plans of Flavius and friends and threaten the sanctity of Varzuun with his tyranny.
Riding the evil black dragon Tyranthus and wielding the fearsome evil sword Apollyon, he crushes any who stand in his way or attempt to oppose his dark agenda.

THE GREAT RACES OF VARZUUN
Mysterious Forest Dwellers
|
Deep Under-Earth Dwellers
|
Slim, beautiful and mysterious, the Vaqlorii are skilled practitioners of magic and lovers of the arcane arts. The Vaqlorii are a serene and gentle people, but they are also quite xenophobic and fiercely territorial.
The Vaqlorii have white skin with a slightly bluish hue, though there are rumours of an offshoot race with deep blue skin tones. Vaqlorii eyes have small irises of light purple, golden, or silver tones, though among practitioners of magic, the irises seem to disappear entirely, leaving white orbs with simply a tiny black pupil. Vaqlorii hair is long, straight, fine and usually stark white silver or platinum in tone, though some may have subtle bluish or pinkish highlights.

Hulking, powerful and hauntingly mysterious, the Maedar dwell in the deep places of the World Beneath the World. The Maedar are generally amicable to humans, despite the humans' fear and mistrust of them. The Maedar have grey colourless skin ranging from bone white to pitch black, but usually a medium (battleship) grey. Their eyes are usually steel grey to light blue. As tall as humans, their long torsoes and short legs may make them appear dwarflike to some, giantlike to others, when first encountered, depending on the viewer. The Maedar, male and female alike, are completely bald. Some Maedar males may venture up to the surface world, but females never do.

THE RELIGIONS, MYTHS AND HISTORY OF VARZUUN
From the Power of Faith...
|
... to a Forgotten Race:
|
All the sentient and semi-sentient creatures on Varzuun hold some sort of spiritual beliefs or religious ideologies, running the gamut from the atheist/skeptic culture of the Vaqlorii to the naturopathic connectedness of the viDruids to the dogmatic ritualized faith of the various clerical orders to the Dharmuzzian cult of magic and more. Most Humans, and surprizingly, the Maedar, believe in Ā-nak, the omnipotent and omniprescient creator of the Omniverse. As in any world of diverse cultures, with such a wide range of beliefs, disagreements and conflicts can and do arise.

Every now and then, on a storyteller's night, it is said, "A long, long time ago, when the world was young, before the race of man came upon Varzuun, before the Vaqlorii, before the Maedar, all Varzuun was a very peaceful pastoral and beautiful land, free of dangerous places, free of wars, free of the Abominations. In this old Varzuun, there was an ancient race whose name no one now remembers, whose name was washed from all living memory, a race that had long passed into the realm of myth, now known only as the Oublions, the forgotten ones." Were they just a myth? A twice-told tale of Bardic lore? Or did they really exist? |

THE COMMUNAL PLACES OF VARZUUN
From Great Halls...
|
... To Inns and Public Houses
|
Borthwicke Lodge was more than just a lodge. It was a walled town much like Wensley Hold. The town was walled after being thrice sacked and burnt to the ground by Smeddeg raiders centuries ago. The lodge itself was, not counting castles, cathedrals and temples, the largest building in all Albanon. Its great hall had been made from the Cedars of Cymruvia, some of the tallest trees in all Varzuun. The apex beam was a single timber some one hundred and twenty-three stryde long. Over the almost two centuries since the lodge had last been burnt down and rebuilt, many artists and artisans had carved hundreds of decorative scenes and illustrations onto the great timbers of the lodge, both inside and out, making it one of the great hubs of storytelling. Using some of these carvings as starting points, bards and audiences from many a far-off land and clime would come to share tales of history and fantasy, of adventure and mirth in this great hall. |
⬆ Once the ogre was slain, and the Old Southern Highway opened up, the Inn of the Blue Thistle began to prosper, as did all of Kilravock. The Blue Thistle soon became a favourite hang-out for adventurers from far and wide. The industrious innkeeper, Duncan of Kinross, soon found ways to import some exotic foods, wines, and spirits from far-off lands. Flavius, Draven, and friends return often to this place of hospitality, making it one of their home bases. ⬇
