This schematic features a split dorsal (top) and ventral (bottom) elevation as well as a side elevation and shows the Draken (rider) in combat position but in the cruising seat. In cruising position, he will flatten himself out along the dragon's neck. Usually, the rider in combat sits further back with his back against the shoulder-alar boneplate. |

DRACONIS DRAKHENSIS, The Legendary Dragons of Varzuun: Ridden by the famed (or infamous) Draken Knights, who, for centuries enforced the uneasy peace between the three great races. Now all but a remnant, mostly a bunch of aging decadent oligarchs, the Draken and their dragons once protected all Varzuun against the abominations.
Shortly after the wyrmlings (young dragons) hatch, they form a life-long empathic (NOT telepathic) bond with their chosen rider in a ritual called the communion. If the Draken Knight dies, the dragon goes irrelibund (suicides in a spectacular disintegration). If the dragon dies, the Draken will retire and go into a deep melancholia, possibly for the rest of his life. Only Humans become Draken Knights.
